Kiaušas - Elmiškis Vidmantas, poet, prose writer.
Was born in Burbiškis, Anykščiai district, on May 23, 1952.

I, Vidmantas Kiaušas, later - litterateur Elmiškis, was born on May 23, 1952, in Anykščiai district, mansion of Burbiškis. At that time there was not only a school, but also some apartments as well. My father was a teacher. My mother grew four children. I am the last of two meters high, who attended J. Biliūnas Secondary School in Anykščiai. I dreamt of journalism, but unexpectedly for myself I enrolled into the Faculty of Electrotechnics of Kaunas Polytechnical Institute. I took back my papers myself after three months, in order no to be expelled...
I worked as a loader at Spindulys (then it was called a publishing-house of K. Požėla) publishing-house and studied the Lithuanian language and literature at Kaunas Evening Department of Vilnius University. When I was in the third course, I got to know that a bureau of Imaginative Literature of the Writers Union needed a worker in Kaunas. I proposed my candidacy, they engaged, I took my leave in a friendly way after twelve years.
What else? I was one of publishers of a satire and humour newspaper of jolly remembrance Ūpas, an administrator of editorial office of Nemunas. Today, I am a reporter of a weekly Šeimininkė.
The literature pseudonym – a name of a withered village not far from the Rubikiai Lake. I had lived there when I was four years old with my Mother and Grandmother. For me, there is the nicest place in Lithuania and, small Debeikiai cemetery that had become a shelter for my closest people, is not far away.
I have been a good reader since my childhood. I can still remember a "library" of Primary School – a cupboard full of books. What I have understood, for example in a four-volume work by Reymont Peasants (Kaimiečiai), it is difficult to say today. I only know that the smell of publication is still sweet for me. So, in order to save paper, I write shortly, laconically and poetically as far as I can. I would like to be a poet, however I am not going to give up satire and humour. Perhaps, another one genre will join in...
I have one wife and two children – a son and a daughter and movables – hardly interested by someone – a library.
