Antanas Paulavičius

Paulavičius Antanas, poet, prose writer, playwright.
Was born in Anykščiai, on January 2, 1924.
In 1945-1948 he studied Lithuanistics at Vilnius University. In 1948 he was deported to Krasnoyarsk region. From 1956 he worked as a teacher in Viduklė and Raseiniai, in 1970-1986 in Kaunas.

Autobiography:
I was born in 1924, in Anykščiai. There I attended gymnasium. In 1944, after a general P. Plechavičius invited young men to enter the local division, I had enrolled into the Military School of that division in Marijampolė. (At the present time I am a chairman of the established union of the Lithuanian Local Division).
In 1945 I enrolled into Vilnius University, where I studied the Lithuanian language and literature. At the same time I also studied at violin class of Music School. However, I was deported to Siberia in 1948 and thus my studies were over. Having returned to Lithuania after the deportation that lasted eight years, I finished the university extramural studies in 1960.
I had worked as a teacher at various places for a long time: in Krasnoyarsk region, Raseiniai district and Kaunas. I was a teacher of the Lithuanian and German languages, music; worked as a vice principal of Raseiniai Secondary School, later – a principal of Raseiniai Children Music School. I also was a head of various music collectives: chorus, vocal ensembles and brass bands.
I started my creative tests as far back as I attended gymnasium. Studying at the University I joined in an active literary activity: I was a member of the Young Writers section of the Writers Union, a chairman of a literature coterie of Vilnius University. At that time, my first poems appeared in press. The deportation had broken my creative activity. Having used up a lot of time and energy, I started to write again only in the times of the Revival.
