Gasparas Aleksa – poet, prose writer and playwright.
Was born in Antkalnė, Jurbarkas district, on January 1, 1946.
In 1970 he graduated from Kaunas Medical Institute.
From 1971 till 1982 he worked as a surgeon at Šakiai city, from 1983 till 1990 he gave lectures on surgery at Vilnius Medical School. In 1991 – 1996 he worked at various state and social organizations. In 1997-1998 he worked at Ministry of Social Security and Labour. In 1995, in association with his supporters, he founded the Lithuanian Disabled People Union and since 1999 he has been a vice-president of the union. He also founded a publishing house “Joružis” (1995), magazine “Bičiulis” (1998), since 1999 he has been a chief editor of the magazine and a lecturer of Vilnius Gediminas Technical University. Since 2011 he dedicated himself for creative work and is participating in various projects. His poetry and prose is translated into German, Latvian, Polish, English, Georgian, Belorussian, Ukrainian and Russian languages.
He is a member of Lithuanian Writers’ Union since 2001.
