Literary Prizes and Awards

The Lithuanian Writers Union award

The LWU award, established in 1992, is granted for a high value literary work which has been published within last 2 years. The prize is awarded each year on 6th of January – the day of Epiphany. The amount of award is evaluated by the LWU Board every year. It is appointed by the 5-member committee, which in turn is elected by the LWU Board.

Poetry Spring laureates (Maironis award)

This is the main prize of the Poetry Spring festival. The Municipality of Kaunas has been honouring the laureate with Maironis award since 2013.

Liudas Dovydėnas literary award

The LWU has established a yearly Liudas Dovydėnas award for Lithuanian novel, in memory of the famous Lithuanian prosaist, laureate of the National Prize (1936) Liudas Dovydėnas (1906-2000). The award is appointed in a contest for the best new Lithuanian novel, published during the last artificial year. Maecenas for this prize is Jonas Dovydėnas, the son of L. Dovydėnas.

The Institute of Lithuanian Literature and Folklore award

Jotvingiai award

It is the main prize of the festival „Poetical Autumn of Druskininkai“.

Dionizas Poška literary award

Municipality of Šilalė district has established its yearly award of Dionizas Poška. The prize is appointed in a competition for the best new Lithuanian poetry book, published within the last artificial year. Nominated creative work should reflect ethnic motives, Lithuanian traditions and memory of national history.

Antanas Miškinis literary award

This yearly award is established by the Culture Centre of Utena. The prize is appointed in a competition for nurturing of the spirit of Higher Lithuania region in poetry. The books published during last two artificial years can be considered in this competition.

Salomėja Nėris literary award

This is one of the oldest awards appointed during the Poetry Spring festival. Being established in 1972 by S. Nėris name communal property in Vilkaviškis district, it was awarded until 1993. In 2002 it was re-established by Municipality of Vilkaviškis district.

Antanas Baranauskas literary award

Awarded by Municipality of Anykščiai district, this prize honours the profound literary traditions of Anykščiai region. A. Baranauskas award is given yearly for the last three-year period of creative work by professional fiction writers. The nominated works should encourage fascination with Lithuanian nature and environment of A. Baranauskas’ birthplace, bring out the spiritual relationship between man and nature. Or these could be works of professional literaturology from the last three-year period, devoted to study the creative work of Antanas Baranauskas.

Jonas Aistis literary award

This award was established by the Council of Kaišiadorys Municipality in 2004. It is awarded every June for the exploration and propagation of creative work by Jonas Aistis, as well as for nurturing his spirit in creative field. The books of poetry, essays, prose and literary science, published within the last two years, are eligible for this competition.

Petras Cvirka literary award

Established in 1984, this prize is awarded once in three years in Veliuona. In 1987-1996 period this award was dormant. It is awarded by Municipality of Jurbarkas for the best book of short novels.

Lithuanian Artists’ Association award

It is awarded for exceptional professional artwork, published within the last two years.
