Kornelijus Platelis – poet, translator.
He was born 22 January, 1951 in Šiauliai.
In 1973 he graduated from Vilnius Engineering Construction Institute and acquired a speciality of roads building engineer. In 1973-1975 he served in the Soviet Army as an officer. From 1975 till 1988 he worked as an engineer in various construction organizations in Druskininkai. During the years 1988-1991 he was a freelance writer. In 1991-1993 he was a vice-minister of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, in 1993-1995 he worked as a consultant of the Lithuanian Cities Union, in 1995-1996 he was a vice-mayor of Druskininkai. From 1996 till 1998 he was the head of publishing house “Vaga” and a minister of Culture and Education in 1998-2000. From 2001 till 2014 he was an editor in chief of weekly magazine “Literatura ir menas”. He is a member of Lithuanian PEN Center since 1989 and he was a chairman of the Center during the years of 1991-1995. He is a chairman of the board of Druskininkai Poetic Fall since 1990. He is a president of Lithuanian Art Association and a board member of National Radio and Television, Press, Radio and Television support fund. He has translated and published works of E.E. Cummings, Ted Huges, Czesław Miłosz, Wisława Szymborska, John Keats and others. Also he has made comments for the Old Testament in 1990. His poetry has been translated into English, Armenian, Belorussian, Bulgarian, Czech, Estonian, Greek, Georgian, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, French, Portuguese, Chinese, German, Ukrainian, Slovenian, Russian and other languages.
A member of Lithuanian Writers’ Union since 1988.
