Lidija Šimkutė-Pocienė – poetess, translator.
She was born 24 January, 1942 in Krakės village, Skuodas district.
She spent her childhood in Oldenburg and other refugees camps in Germany. In 1949 she moved to Australia with her family. She finished Primary school and Gymnasium there. In 1962 she finished her studies at Gordon Technological Institute, Deakin University. She acquired a specialty of a dietitian and worked in several hospitals from 1964 till 2001 with short breaks. She started writing poems while she was still studying at school. During the years of 1973-1978 she studied Lithuanian language and literature, history and folklore at Institute of Lithuanian Languages in Chicago, USA (extramural studies). From 1977 till 1987 she attended Lithuanian language courses at Vilnius University. She writes in Lithuanian and English. Her debut in Lithuanian was in 1977 and her debut in English was in 1982. She is a member of South Australian Writers’ Center since 1992.
A member of Lithuanian Writers’ Union since 2004.
